Moonsense Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Moonsense (the "App") handles information. Moonsense is designed to keep your data local to your device and minimize sharing. By using the App, you agree to this Policy.

If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

Quick Summary

• • No accounts; Moonsense does not run its own servers.
• • Your journal entries, name, focus, birth timestamp, zodiac sign, location, and settings are stored locally on your device.

Information We Collect

Moonsense collects and stores the following on your device:

• • Journal entries: text you write, the moon phase captured with each entry, sentiment value (if present), tags, and selected focus.
• • Profile and settings: first name, focus area, birth timestamp, zodiac sign, location coordinates saved during onboarding, notification preferences, and reminder time.
• • Device-derived data: local moon phase, moonrise/set times, and lunar zodiac sign are calculated on-device (no external API is used for these).

Moonsense does not maintain server-side copies of your data.

Optional AI Features

When you use AI-powered features, the App sends a carefully limited prompt to Google’s Generative Language API (Gemini) over HTTPS:

• • Personalized Insights: may include your first name, selected focus, current moon phase and lunar sign, and up to ~200 characters from up to 20 recent journal entries (along with dates and moon phases) so the model can generate specific observations.
• • Personalized Affirmations & Reflection Prompts: include your first name, current moon phase, lunar sign, selected focus, and derived themes (simple keywords) from up to 5 recent entries—without sending full journal text.

Moonsense does not store these prompts or responses on Moonsense servers. Google may process data on its infrastructure according to Google’s policies. Please review Google’s terms and privacy practices.

Horoscope Feature

To fetch a daily horoscope, Moonsense sends your selected zodiac sign to a free API hosted on Vercel (horoscope-app-api.vercel.app). No other personal data is sent for this feature.

Purchases and Subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. Moonsense uses StoreKit to:

• • Load products and display pricing.
• • Verify active entitlements on your device.
• • Restore purchases.

Apple may process data about your purchases per its terms and privacy policy. Moonsense does not receive your full payment details.

How We Use Your Information

• • Provide core app functionality (journaling, lunar insights, prompts, affirmations).
• • Personalize content and features based on your settings and entries.
• • Compute local astronomical information (moonrise/set, lunar zodiac) on-device.
• • Generate optional AI content when you request it.
• • Show daily horoscopes based on your selected zodiac sign.
• • Prompt for App Store reviews using Apple’s framework, based on local session counts.

Data Sharing

Moonsense does not sell your data. We share data only as necessary to provide optional features:

• • Google Generative Language API (Gemini): limited prompts for AI content, as described above.
• • Horoscope API: zodiac sign to retrieve daily horoscope.
• • Apple: purchases, subscriptions, and review prompt framework.

Data Retention

• • On-device data (journal entries, profile, settings) remain until you delete them or uninstall the App.
• • AI prompts/responses are not stored by Moonsense. Third parties may have their own retention practices; review their policies.

Security

Data is stored locally using Apple frameworks (SwiftData, AppStorage). We rely on OS-level protections for local data. No system is perfectly secure; keep your device software up to date and use a strong passcode.

Your Choices and Controls

• • You can edit or delete journal entries within the App.
• • You can disable location access in iOS Settings; lunar calculations may be less precise without it.
• • You can avoid AI features; journaling and local lunar insights work without sending data to third parties.
• • You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings.
• • To remove all local data, uninstall the App (iOS may retain backups if you use device or cloud backups).

Children’s Privacy

Moonsense is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, you must have a parent or guardian’s permission.

International Transfers

When you use AI or horoscope features, data may be processed on infrastructure outside your country. By using those features, you consent to such transfers, subject to applicable laws.

EEA/UK Residents

If you are in the EEA/UK, you may have rights under local data protection laws (e.g., access, deletion). Because Moonsense does not run its own servers, most rights can be exercised on-device (editing/deleting entries, uninstalling the App). For AI or horoscope processing, review the respective third-party policies.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
